Ah, the '70s. Before hip-hop was a gleam in Kool Herc's eye, pop culture still had more hustlers, gangsters, and pimps than Calvin Butts could drive a steamroller over. And we're not even talking about the Nixon administration—we're talking about blaxploitation! Yes, that most righteous of movie genres, in which anyone with a high kick and an Afro was out to either a) help their community out from under The Man's thumb or b) keep their community under their own thumb. Whether political screeds, parades of ass-kicking, or simply rip-offs of popular "white" movies, blaxploitation flicks continue to influence us to this day.
